Stamping Tips for Scrapbookers – Embossing on Fabric

Have you ever wondered if you could emboss on something other than cardstock? Well I am here to show you that you can .There are a few hints and rules to follow, so please read on.

Here is what I created using Stampin Up! Cardstock, Double sided patterned paper, ribbon, Felt flowers, Rhinestone brads, Clear buttons, Metal Edge tags, Stampin’ Write markers, Stamps, Embossing buddy, Versamark, Heat tool and of course our fantastic silver embossing powder.

So don’t let you stamps collect dust, pull them out and give this a whirl

Step one

First, iron your fabric if you want a neat look (you won’t be able to iron it after embossing it with the powder).

Step two

Pick out your stamps – chunky ones work best although it is possible to get a fairly fine line on a tightly woven fabric. I used the wonderful Brocade Basic, 6 stamp set (RRP $45.95).

004Step three

Rub with down the fabric with the embossing buddy (also used for paper) to reduce static and excess powder sticking. And then stamp image with a extra wet Versamark pad.

Step four

Sprinkle silver embossing powder over the stamped image. It can be a little tricky to see it on the fabric, but the embossing buddy will help by not allowing excess powder to cling onto the fabric….Dust off

Step five

Now please remember to place your fabric on a clean, non-flammable surface when you are ready to emboss with your heat tool. Keep watch as the embossing powder quiet fast and you don’t want to overdo it.

And that is it…

I recommend experimenting with different fabrics, colours and stamps to make sure you get fabulous results!
